MUSIC FOR BURSTING BLOOD VESSELS (2018)
Music For Bursting Blood Vessels is a piece for chamber ensemble and video. I made the while taking care of my father after he suffered multiple strokes in a short period of time. I recorded the many voice messages he left on my phone, some intentional and some accidental and used them as the formal and thematic cornerstones of the piece. Music for Bursting Blood Vessels is about memory, loss, and trying to make sense of the logistics of reality when you’re mind is slipping. Deja vu, thought trails that lead to nowhere, and trying to figure out how to use your Bank ID.
Music For Bursting Blood Vessels was commissioned by Aksiom Ensemble, supported by The Norwegian Arts Council, and premiered at Klang Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark in May 2018.
